Kathleen K Miller, MD

Kathleen (Katy) Miller is double board certified in pediatrics with a subspecialty certification in adolescent medicine, a specialty requiring a three-year fellowship through the American Board of Pediatrics. Areas of expertise include primary care for adolescent and young adult patients, diagnosis and medical management of eating disorders, sexual and reproductive health, LGBTQ health and gender health (including puberty blockers and hormone therapy), adolescent brain development and substance use, immigrant health, mental health of young people, minor consent and confidentiality, and global adolescent health. She is an educator who has taught learners at every level, from lay persons to physician colleagues. She has held leadership roles on the national and international level with the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine. She has authored over 25 peer-reviewed scientific articles and received over $200,000 in grant funding focusing on adolescent health. She has been quoted in national and international media, including NPR News, BBC World News, and the New York Times. Prior to her current role at the University of Minnesota, she was the medical director of adolescent health at Children’s Minnesota, the largest pediatric health system in the region. She is recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor and Minnesota Monthly Top Doctor, honors awarded to physicians nominated by their peers and selected for excellence in clinical care, professional achievement, and patient outcomes.
